Sydney Cockroach Control and Treatment
If you are in need of cockroach pest control in Sydney, there are a few things you need to know. There are numerous different species of cockroaches and the treatment which they require will vary accordingly. Identifying your pest is crucial to providing these specialised treatments. Five of the most common species are the German, Australian, Oriental, Smokey-brown and American cockroaches.
German Cockroach Control In Sydney
The German cockroach service requires focus and a specialised treatment when these are found present in a residential setting.
As this cockroach reproduces quicker than any other cockroach, the German cockroach grows from egg to an adult that can reproduce in as little as 50 or 60 days. Another issue the nature of their behaviour. They are not social creatures and do not give maternal care to their infants. However, the females carry an ootheca of 18 to 50 eggs. The ootheca actually protects the eggs from many natural predators. Whereas most other cockroach species just drop their eggs which could be seen as a nice little snack to lizards, rodents and other cockroach predators.

Oriental Cockroach Control In Sydney
Smaller than the Australian cockroaches, the Oriental cockroach clocks in at around 25 millimetres in length. They are a darker colour and have a consistent dark-brown, almost black body. Despite the fact that they have wings, they don’t normally fly. That said, the males can be identified from females due to their much larger wings which run the entire length of the abdomen.
This species can live up to a maximum of 6 months. They tend not to be found above ground level and are relatively slow-moving cockroaches compared to other species. Areas such as cellars, kitchens, bathrooms and drainage points are prime locations for them to congregate. When found outside, they will be located beneath wet leaves or bark and they tend to be found mainly in cooler climates.
Australian Cockroach Control In Sydney
This species of cockroach is normally found in warm, wet climates in tropical or subtropical regions. They grow to a length of around 35 millimetres and have a dark brown hue alongside a yellow colouration on the top of the thorax and front of the wings.
They are capable of living both outdoors and indoors but prefer to be outside. Considering their main source of food, they generally congregate around plants and as such can be found in close proximity to trees, shrubberies, greenhouses or loose piles of wood. Their lifespan is on average 4 to 8 months. Due to their outdoor nature, specific treatments will be necessary potentially including baits, barriers and insecticide.

American Cockroach Control In Sydney
This species tends to be the largest of all the cockroaches classified as pests. They can reach lengths of up to 40 millimetres. Their main colouration is deep red or brown with pale legs and a light yellow ring around the thorax.
They have wings and are capable of short-distance flights during the warmer months. Upon inspection, the males have noticeably longer wings than the females and they reach beyond their abdomens. Their diet of preference consists mostly of decayed matter but when needed can eat anything organic including your clothing. That said, they are able to go without any food at all for up to 3 months as long as they have a supply of water.
That said, they tend to favour damp, dark places to nest and will generally amass in locations such as the walls, roofing, refuse areas and sewerage. You will find their eggs around areas of food and water and they will be glued to nearby surfaces. The average American cockroach will live for 6 months to a year.
Smokey-Brown Cockroach Control In Sydney
These medium-sized cockroaches grow up to a length of 30 millimetres and have wings. They are a similar dark-brown colour to other species but they have a reflective nature to them and so appear shiny.
They can live up to a year and the females can lay a relatively high number of egg cases in their lifetime. Needing to keep themselves hydrated, they will tend to be found in dark, damp places particularly those which are not well ventilated. This species is rarely found in the living areas of a building and favours locations such as the roofing, walls, drains and cellars.
They can also be found amongst flower beds of young plants or in and around sheds. A distinctive trait of the smokey-brown cockroach is that it has an affinity to light and can be attracted to it during the night hours. They are a warm temperature cockroach and can utilise their wings being capable of flight.
